There’s something timeless about a rustic setting, especially around the holidays. When this beautiful family showed up in perfectly coordinated burgundy, flannel, and neutral tones, I knew we were about to create magic.
We met near a massive woodpile, It couldn’t have been a more perfect backdrop. The textured bark, stacked logs, and winter sky gave everything a cozy, outdoorsy feel without the need for snow or props. The natural earth tones made their outfits pop in all the right ways, and the smiles (and a few silly moments) made the whole session feel like home.
Why Rustic Holiday Photos Work So Well
Whether you’re dreaming of a Christmas card that’s a little less polished and a little more real, or you just love the cozy, cabin-in-the-woods aesthetic, rustic locations offer so much charm.
No studio lights. No fake snow. Just your people!
Family Photo Outfit Tips for a Rustic Look
If you’re drawn to this vibe, here are a few tips for planning your own:
- Think texture: corduroy, wool, knits, flannel
- Choose a muted or earthy color palette: deep reds, browns, sage, oatmeal
- Mix patterns carefully: subtle plaid, soft stripes, small-scale prints
- Layer up: jackets, boots, tights, scarves, all fair game
- Keep it personal: a favorite pair of boots or playful pose brings heart to the final image
