Cincinnati’s Newborn Photography and Fine Art Portraits.
As a Cincinnati newborn photographer, I pour my heart - and years of experience - into every session.
If you’re considering newborn photography for your little one, I’m so glad you’re here. Capturing your baby’s earliest days is one of the most meaningful ways to celebrate this new chapter and preserve all the tiny, fleeting details you’ll want to remember forever. Over the years, families have told me again and again that their newborn portraits are still some of their most treasured images, long after the baby stage has passed.
I’m Jackie, the photographer behind Cream n Cocoa Photography. Since 2009, I’ve had the honor of photographing thousands of newborns across Cincinnati and beyond. I’ve also taught newborn posing and editing at in-person workshops across the U.S. and online, helping other photographers create safe, beautiful images, too. With over a decade of hands-on experience, I know exactly what it takes to create portraits that are not only stunning but also prioritize your baby’s comfort and safety at every step.
Here’s the reality: newborn sessions aren’t just about fancy equipment, cute props, or perfect lighting. What truly makes a difference is working with a photographer who understands how to gently and safely guide your baby into natural, cozy poses, while patiently waiting for those sleepy moments that tell the real story. Many parents are surprised by how much care and attention go into each session, but the result? A gallery of timeless images that freeze those first, tender days in time.
Below, you’ll find answers to the most common questions I get before a newborn session, so you can feel informed, confident, and fully prepared for the experience.

When Do Newborn Photography Sessions Take Place?
The ideal time for a newborn session is when your baby is between 7 and 20 days old. During this window, babies are usually extra sleepy and still naturally curled up from the womb, perfect for capturing those cozy, snuggly poses. After the first few weeks, babies tend to be more alert and a little less flexible, which can make posing trickier. Waiting a few days post-birth also allows time to establish feeding routines and for your baby to regain any weight lost after delivery – both key to a smooth, peaceful session.
How Do I Reserve a Spot for My Newborn Photography Session?
To reserve your newborn session at my Cincinnati studio, I recommend pre-booking based on your due date. Since babies love to make their own schedules, I only take a limited number of newborns each month to allow flexibility for early or late arrivals. Once your baby is born, my pre-booked clients reach out within 48 hours to schedule the exact date and time for the shoot. Also, if your little one needs extra time or care in the hospital, no worries—your baby’s well-being always comes first, and I’ll work with you to adjust as needed.
What Happens If My Baby is Born Premature?
If your baby arrives early, don’t worry! The timeline for premature newborn photography is naturally extended. Typically, preemies are still very sleepy around their original due date. For example, a baby born at 34 weeks will likely behave like a 38-week newborn around four weeks after birth, making them ideal for posing. Health and safety are always my top priorities, and we’ll only move forward with the session once your baby is stable, healthy, and safely home.
How Can I Hold My Spot If I’m Not Sure When My Baby Will Arrive?
Because delivery dates are unpredictable, I prebook newborn sessions based on your estimated due date. I intentionally limit the number of bookings each month to ensure flexibility. Once your baby arrives, you’ll simply contact me within the first 48 hours to finalize a session date. This way, you can relax knowing your spot is reserved no matter when your little one makes their grand entrance!
Can I Request More Than The 10-20 Photos?
Each newborn session focuses on creating high-quality, uniquely styled images rather than a high quantity of similar shots. Every photograph is carefully crafted, taking into account fine details, lighting, posing, and styling to ensure you receive heirloom-quality portraits you’ll cherish for a lifetime. While newborns typically allow a limited window for posing and feeding, my goal is to deliver a diverse gallery filled with distinct looks, backgrounds, and props, not repetitive angles and messy posing. When it comes to professional newborn photography, quality truly matters more than quantity.
Can We Include Family and Sibling Photos During the Newborn Session?
Absolutely! All of my Cincinnati newborn photography sessions include the option for family and sibling portraits. We’ll begin with these important shots early in the session, typically within the first 30 minutes. Afterward, a parent, grandparent, or caregiver can take older siblings for a break, while we continue with the individual newborn photos. This approach keeps everyone relaxed and ensures we get beautiful, stress-free images of your whole family together.
